During the 9th Polish Championships - Zary 2009, there has been an incident between an athlete of the Zloty Tur Gdynia club - Christian Rieger, and the FAP main referee Peter Szczerba. The athlete was under the influence of alcohol and was behaving in an impropriate, aggressive way.

On Igor Mazurenko's - chairman of The Zloty Tur Club proposal, the congress of the Polish Armwrestling Federation made a decision on April the 5th to suspend Christian Rieger for six months. The suspension expires on the 5th of October 2009.

The Polish National Championships were held during the 4th and 5th April 2009 in the spectator's arena of the Boleslaw Prus' High School no. 1 in Zary. The main organizer of the competition was the UKS Szaki club form Zary under the patronage of The Polish Armwrestling Federation.

240 athletes from 24 polish armwrestling clubs showed up at the competition. This has been a record number of competitors in the history of Polish National Championships. Only professional, experienced armwrestlers with a valid license took part in the event. Thanks to this the whole competition stood on a very high European or even world level. The stakes were high - title of the Polish National Champion both left and right hand in 2009 and a place in the national squad for the XIX European Championships - Bulgaria, 01-07 June 2009 and the XXXI World Championships, Italy 07-13 September 2009 (two athletes from each weight category have the right to start in these events).

The athletes have competed in 13 junior weight categories (girls: do 45kg, 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, +70kg, boys: do 50kg, 55 kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 80kg,+80kg), 18 senior categories (women: do 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70 kg, 80kg, +80 kg, men: do 55kg, 60 kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg, 100kg, 110kg, +110kg), 3 masters categories - athletes older than 40 years ( open - women, under 90kg and over 90kg men), 4 disabled categories (men: under 75kg, under 90kg, over 90kg, women: open). During the first day of the competition, athletes have competed on 4 tables, left hand, and the next day the right hand.

In the team overall classification Szaki Club Zary (the organizer) had won with a total of 419 points. Mariusz Grochowski's MCKiS Titans Jaworzno took second 364 points, and Jaroslaw Zwolak's UKS-16 Koszalin was third.
